Step Back in Time: Year 5 Strike Gold on Winter Excursion to Bathurst
As Term 2 came to a close, our brave Year 5 students bundled up, stepped back into the 19th century, and embarked on a memorable multi-day adventure into the heart of the historic Central Tablelands.
Trading their classrooms for the crisp mountain air, the cohort set out to explore the stunning countryside, rolling green hills, and sweeping views of the Bathurst and Blue Mountains region. Though the winter temperatures brought a brisk chill, the action-packed itinerary kept everyone’s spirits high and curiosity warm.
The journey began with an adrenaline rush along the way, where students rode the legendary Scenic Railway down the escarpment, soaking in breathtaking, panoramic wilderness views while experiencing the thrill of the world's steepest incline railway.
Upon arriving in gold rush country, the young historians immersed themselves in colonial Australia. The hands-on learning came thick and fast as students roll up their sleeves to pan for gold in the ponds, feeling the excitement of finding shiny flakes amidst the gravel. They also witnessed the traditional art of blacksmithing, watching iron being forged over roaring fires and learning about the tough, resourceful lives of early miners and settlers. From exploring replica goldfields to learning about life on the frontier, history truly came alive off the pages of their textbooks.
The excursion was a resounding success, packed with educational discovery, thrilling moments, and plenty of laughs amidst the frosty mornings. It was a cold trip, but the shared memories, new friendships, and rich learning made for a wonderfully warm experience that Year 5 won't soon forget!
