Board Structure and Governance Model

Green Point Christian College is distinctly Christian as its vision “Excellence in Christ Centred Education” reflects.  The College is a member of Christian Schools Australia (CSA), an association serving the Christian movement nationally.

The Board appoints a Chief Executive Officer (the Principal) who is charged with the day to day responsibilities of leadership and management of the College. The Board focuses its agenda to matters of company policy and of providing guidance to the Principal about the future direction of the College and developing plans towards achieving the College Vision and Mission whilst maintaining our distinctiveness.  Members of the Board are elected from the Company, Green Point Christian College Limited, being members of Green Point Baptist Church.

Board members bring varying gifts and talents to their role, seeking specific expertise and support if and when required.  At varying times these consultants may include James Winter (Grant Thornton Audit Pty Ltd), Paul Campey (Resolve Consulting), and Professor Kevin Sproats (former Vice Chancellor of the University of Western Sydney).

Green Point Christian College Limited (the College Company) is a not for profit public company limited by guarantee with a Board of Directors made up of Christians from Green Point Baptist Church.

 

Chairman

Mr Malcolm Rowson (Elder of Green Point Baptist Church)

Mal brings a depth and wisdom to his role as Chairman of the Board with his background in Industrial Management embracing Methods Engineering and Production Control.  Mal is a former employee of the College bringing significant understanding of the day to day issues related to management of the College.  He is married to Robyn, a father of four adult children.

 

Board Members

Rev. Philip Blair (Senior Pastor of Green Point Baptist Church)

Phil has been in pastoral ministry for over 16 years, having previously worked and studied in the areas of Management and Marketing for 8 years.  This combination of experience enables Phil to have a good understanding of both the operational and pastoral aspects of the College.  Phil received his B.Min from Morling Theological College in 2003, and is currently undertaking a Master of Arts (Theology).  He is married to Sharon and has two boys, Joshua in our Secondary School, and Owen in our Junior School.

 

Mrs Kay Cooper

Kay has been a member of Green Point Baptist Church for over 15 years and has held leadership roles including that of Deacon and Music Co-ordinator. Her current ministry within the Church is that of providing graphic design services on a weekly basis.  Kay has experience in quality assurance policies and procedures, workplace health and safety, and total quality management, as well as workplace systems formulation. Previous roles include Art Director, Quality Manager and Graphic Designer.  Presently her role is in Administration and Sales Support.  Kay is married to Tony and has had involvement with Green Point Christian College since 2000 with her son Ben graduating Year 12 in 2012.

 

Emeritus Professor Kevin Sproats

Kevin retired from the University of Western Sydney in 2010 where he had been Professor of Urban Planning and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Campus Development). Prior to his academic career Kevin worked in the public and private sectors. Since retiring, Kevin and his wife Eira spend six months each year working as volunteers with Mobile Mission Maintenance serving Christian ministries in outback Australia. To better facilitate this commitment, in 2012 they moved into a retirement villa in Kincumber and joined Green Point Baptist Church. Kevin brings experience in campus development and board governance having served on NSW Government boards and commissions.

 

Richard Love                                                                                                                                               

After training as a Special Education teacher, Richard taught in Western Sydney. Following teaching, he then spent 27 years with Avco Financial Services, rising to Director of Human Resources for Australia and New Zealand. In 1992 Richard transferred to the United Kingdom as Deputy Managing Director of Avco Trust PLC. In the last 10 years of employment he was Lead Assessor for Australian Quality Awards and Senior Assessor for British Quality Foundation.

On retirement Richard was Chairman of Anglicare South Coast and a member of the Ministry Executive of the Anglican Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn. He is currently the Financial Counsellor for Samaritans Emergency Relief Centre at Wyoming. He is also a music volunteer at Hammondville Dementia Unit at Woy Woy.  He is married to Marion and both are members of Green Point Baptist Church after being baptised in 2015.

 

Samuel Tsang

Samuel is an active member of Green Point Baptist Church, serving the Church as its Auditor. He previously worked in the areas of Sales and Marketing for 12 years. Samuel is a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA Australia) and is working as a Business Analyst to provide financial advice to senior executives. He is married to Mandy and has one boy, Brian, in our Junior School.
